Hey all! So I just started a new tank about 1 month ago...water levels are all perfectly fine...having a bloom of brown algae in the tank. I usually always assume the worst...I am nervous that it would h Dino and not diatoms....my lawnmower Blenny is going to town in the stuff eating it literally every time I look at the tank...with that being said...if Dino is so toxic to fish...the blenny not be getting sick from eating it??

Oh.. newbie.. so cute how you all freak out/assume the worst..
Just post a clear picture of your tank showing what you need identified. (turn blue channel of lights way down or off if applicable so we see true color and focus better)
We will tell you what it is..
You can then relax..

What if its not either.. What if you have flackacrackles?
Or even worse.. Symboiwhattchacallits?
:p

Alright here are the pictures. Not sure as to why they look so crappy...but what do you think???? (Praying that its not flackacrackles or the dreaded Symbiochattchacallits....:strange:

Looks like a totally normal tank with plain old diatoms from here..
All is good.. They will pass in time provided you keep up with proper maintenance,etc...

Enjoy.. relax.

Just diatoms.

I had this followed by a dark brownish algae that covered all of my rock work. It was hair-like, but could be scrubbed off easily with a toothbrush.

Like you, I assumed it was something nasty. Well, it disappeared a week or so later and after a couple more weeks, so did the gold patches in my sandbed.

Haven't had any unsightly algae issues since. I'm now about 5 months in. Hopefully it stays that way... ;)
