I just set up my salt water tank one week ago. I have just water and live sand, 30 lbs of uncured live rock arriving on Saturday. Can someone please provide info for the proper cyclying of my tank?

You should ask Waterkeeper, he seems to know more than anybody here. You want to read the threads he has posted.

Try this: http://reefcentral.com/modules.php?s=&name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=1&page=7

Hope this helps! I usually go to the bottom of the forum of choice and select "from the beginning" on the lower blue line of the page, "sort by", then select the "Replies" on the top blue line. This will list all threads w/ the most replies in order. I have found many great threads this way, good luck w/ the tank.

Thanks,

I too would recommend WaterKeepers threads. This thread is one of the best on RC. Very informative and fun to read.

I think it is important for you to get a book about reef aquariums to learn about the fundamentals. Salt water aquariums are complicated and require that you learn a great deal. It is a very challenging hobby, which is why people stay with it for years.

There is always something to learn or something that you can do better. You also have a responsibility to the creatures you put in you tank. There is no single recipe for success as you can tell from all of the questions even experienced reefers have.

It is somewhat like asking people for directions on how to drive somewhere but you don't know how to drive. They can give you all the help in the world but it is information you can't use because you don't have the basic skills to put their instructions into good use. For example, without an understanding of the nitrogen cycle you won't understand why you are doing what you are told to do.

This may sound harsh but IMO this is a question you should have known the answer to before you ordered the live rock.

Everybody here was a Rookie at some point, although you have obviously done some reasearch because you have rock on the way to cycle you tank with.
I think you question might have been or should have been, "What should I expect in the process of my cycle".
Listen to spe934 he has sent you a thread.

I have really gotten a lot of good information from the Talking Reef podcasts. Episodes 2 & 3 cover the nitrogen cycle in detail. The website is www.talkingreef.com and you can find it in iTunes. If you don't have an iPod you can still download it to your computer and listen to it there.
