new to the salt hobby..HELP!!!!!

Can you post more info on your tanks specs? Someone on this forum will be able to advise you better. Thanks!!!

Type of Substrate?
Nitrates?
Nitrites?
Ammonia?
Livestock?
Pounds of LR?

You also may want to post this in the Chemistry forum with all the other paremeters. Here will also probably work. But more information on your tank and other parameters will be needed.

Regards,

Pat

Also, how are you measuring pH? Do you have an alkalinity test result? What are you dosing into the tank, if anything?

I don't dose Kalkwasser but I do know it will increase your PH. My personal opinion is that dosing Kalk or even dripping it is premature for a week or 2 old tank. You don't have anything that requires high calcium at this point. Even though it's more expensive, a good 2-part supplement like b-ionic is probably a good idea until your tank matures (and your knowledge level increases) to the point where you need to maintain a high calcium level, like after you get some coral going. Take it slow and don't do too much to your water.

You are still cycling, I'd stop dosing the kalk like stated before. Read the article that was linked for sure.

Your ph is high, but not outrageous.....but stop dosing anything at all for now....HTH Wait till you NEED lot's of Calcium then start testing Ca, Mg, Alk.

If you haven't read or heard it before....but "nothing good happens fast in this hobby, only bad things happen fast".

You are also going to need a lot more LR if you want to go Reef w/ this tank.....Start reading and don't stop cuz there is always something to learn in this hobby.

Good luck.

thanks to all for the help, im glad i got brave and started to use this post i've been reading alot and the extra help has already started to make a differance
