Hello-

Im Kris :wavehand:, I have a little 6gallon I am cycling (that I need a light for)...A friend from work gave me a 28 or 29 gallon bowfront (maybe even a 30g). Would I be better off going with the bowfront tank instead since its bigger? Both tanks will need lighting/stands.

What would you recommend? Lets hear em!

If you choose the 6 gallon. Within a month or two you will regret not using the larger tank. The more space the better IMO. But a light is a big deal. Should definitley get one of those soon.

[welcome] use the larger tank it will be easier to keep. the water prameters stable then with a six gallon. plus if you want fish you are very limited what you can put in a 6g good luck and happy reefing

6 gal mite make a nice small sump for the 29. But Id also go bigger with that if possible.

Thought about that but its just a little fluval tank, so the pump and stuff is built in. dunno how that would effect the tank as to converting it for a sump

+1 you should always go as big as you can! You will not regret it!

do you think I should go bigger than a 30g or just with the 30g? I don't really want to be limited as to what I can put in there since this will be my first reef tank.

Yes I would like to put fish in it. Leaning more and more towards the 30g now. picking the right lighting is overwhelming, so much to choose from. so many different prices. not trying to break the bank but don't want to purchase something poopyy

If you can bigger than a 30, do it. I honestly mean you won't regret it. When you really get into this, you will want more fish and more corals which = bigger tank! Although you can put more fish in a 30 than you can a 6, you will still be limited on only a few fish in a 30.

Welcome Kris. You've come to the right place to learn about your new hobby. And I'm sure you'll have some friends soon, nofr1ends.
