Newbie clam?

Anyway, I got myself 3 clams a few weeks back and put them all on the sand because I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want them to attach themselves to anything. Well while cleaning the tank I picked up one of the clams and ripped its foot off. Seem it dug itself in to the sand and attached itself to the glass. When I notice this I put him right back down on to its foot. Its been a week and its still doing fine. My ? is, is it a bad thing to rip its foot off? The other 2 seems to also be attached to the bottom of the glass.

you never want to pull them off of anything. you may have just turn the byssal threads off(if thats all you did you should be ok)but you may have damaged the byssal gland(not good). place a small flat rock under them so they will attach to the rock and not the bottom of the tank. if you need to detach them from the bottom of the tank, brush the sand away from the then tip the clam to one side and take a sharp knife and cut the threads as far away from the clam as you can

Has anyone tried placing them on anything else like Plexi-Glass or Glass? My Crocea has been sitting in the sand bed for about a year now and has not attatched to anything. I know Croceas should be on the rockwork, but I don't have any room for him on my LR. Would you recommend putting on top of some sort of plex or glass?

you can place them on anything you want, i just recommend a small flat rock because it looks more natural. if you dont mind looking at it then go for it.
