Newly addicted

I too have been lurking around here for a while. Bought Dr.Bronx's tank a few years ago, built it into my basement wall and then did nothing. Then I bought Adam's set-up and put it in my office a few months ago... and now I seem to be addicted. So the home tank is getting set up.

125 gallon display tank, 75 gallon sump from ABC reef.
Salt, live sand, and around 50 pounds of some nice pieces of rock went in tonight.

pics are attached.

What are people's experience with mixing live rock with dry live rock? Thinking of at least picking up a 50 pound box from Bulk reef supply.

Matt

welcome, if you don't mind the difference in color of the rock then you should be fine.
eventually they will all be covered with coraline algae.
The seeded rock will seed the dry rock shouldn't be an issue, maybe consider picking up a bag of seeded live sand as well

+1 on the dry rock.

Check out reefrocks.net. A lot of the dry rock sold will leach phosphates like mad until it is fully cured/cooked. This can take weeks even months. I started my 220g with 150lbs of dry rock from Reefrocks and I've never had a problem with phosphates. It's great stuff and looks similar to BRS's dry rock.

I had it in my tank for a little over six months and it's coloring up nicely. I seeded it with maybe 10lbs of live rock.

Thanks for the advice. Reefrocks.net looks great.
I've got about 1.5 inches of seeded live sand now.
So if I go with some dry rock, are there any recommendation besides time for handling the phosphates? Does it make any sense to run GFO while the tank/rock is cycling?
