Nitrate Problem

I just check my tank and the nitrates are high. Anyone know a way of bringing them down? I have a 65gal tank with skimmer Coralife SS65 and a hob filter.

a little. but its a temp fix. still need a water change and as rogger said lower feeding

Not sure, I've never try Amquel+ to reduce ammonia

how often are you doing water changes? and is it over stocked??

I do water changes weekly and I have 4 fish in there. Ive taken the fish out and put into a QTank for the mean time. I think I found the problem. My crappy HOB filter wasnt working properly. I purchase a canister filter and letting the tank cycle. Then Ill put the fish back in after all the nitrates go down.

A canister filter is not going to cause your nitrates to go down. they are no better than HOB filters and both can and will cause nitrates to build up in your water because neither of them can reduce nitrates.

How was the HOB not working properly?

Do you have a sump or a fuge?

Go with no filter and put some cheato in the tank. or set up a refrigium

My HOB filter wasnt building any bio.

I am planning on adding some cheato but I gotta find some first. I picked up one of those fighting fish separators that you can stick to the wall of the tank. But now I need some cheato.
