nitrate reductors

I have the Aquamedic 1000.Works fine.Keeps my nitrates under 5ppm.My system is old style wetdry with bio balls(nitrate factory)

I was wondering about the aquamedic? I also see that there's a sulfur based unit from korallin. would lve to get feed back on that unit.

I have heard from one source, that if it plugs up? When reopened it will stink your house out for days (rotten eggs?)

If you over feed the bacteria or if water flow is to slow you will know by the rotten egg smell (hydrogensulfide).

For the sulphur denitrators, Midwest Aquatic also has one that's a little cheaper than the Korallin, but looks pretty good (Note: I have no personal experiece with either yet).

Do you like the Aquamedic 1000, is it hard to set up to get it working right. I was think of purchasing a Denitrator soon. There a quite a few out there and I wasn't sure which one to get.

I do like it.My size tank(75 gallons)a nitrabactor 400 may have done the trick but I went larger. It sits in my sump. Its gravity feed from the display tank so no water pump is needed. The 400 model is about 100 bucks new.I bought my 1000 used on auction for about the same.

I dont use the controller or redox sensor.Depending on the size unit you buy.Initial setup ,flow through the unit is adjusted with a dropper.X number of drops exiting the unit per minute. You must feed the reactor Denimar powder daily for the first few weeks. If deniballs are used no addition feedind is needed. If unit is only filled with bactoballs feeding will be required depending on your nitrate levels.Traces of nitrite exiting means slow down flow or increase feeding.Sulfer smell means increase flow or decrease feeding.I use the deniballs and dont bother with this feeding game. The deniball last about a year before needing to be replaced.

I have the Midwest Aquatic. It works really fine. 0 nitrates for about three months. Easy to take care of. No orp controller or anything.
