Hey, everyone my lights just kicked the bucket.. I have a tek t5 light(6 bulb) lighting system and I can only get slot 1 and 6 to light up... I'm looking at ordering one ASAP and have many sps,lps and clam in the tank.. How much time will it take for me to lose everything I worked for to die..

A lot of people do 3-4 day lights out periods to help control algae all the time, so I'd say you got a good 5 days to a week before its real serious

You have time, things might brown up but will color backup when you get lights. Reefs get bad weather and go without sun for days in nature.

I'm really worried.. everything I've worked for...Looking to order lights now and want to stay with T5's. and can't decide which...?.... :(

what's your budget? That will help with considerations. You can always go with another Tek.

I would also look around in your local forums to see if you can borrow someone's lights (even MH or VHO, etc) for a few days until you get your new setup. Local forums are also great areas to get used lights for excellent deals, and you won't have to wait for shipping.

i've done lights out for 3 days before and no problem. i also lost my lights but used one 250 hqi and switched every other day either side of the tank until i got my replacement light light. since then i now have 2 light fixtures one for use and one for backup. good luck!

I can get two of the bulds to fire... So instead of 6 bulbs I have only 2 right now.. That should allow me the time needed for replacement to come..

I'm looking at the ATI right now.. I thinking I can get the SunPower 6 bulb fixture, thoughts...?

Feeding a "little" bit more may help. Especially with acros the feeding rate increases at night, and you may be able to compensate a little.

You are for sure going to experience some fading......especially with new lights and this dark period it is going to be VERY important not to panic and blast them light, which will more than likely make them bleach.

The Teks have a good reputation, I don't know if you have had less than favorable results...but

ATI's like you mentioned.

retro fits?

Well everyone looks like I'm going with the Aquactinics T5 Constellation 48" Series
After seeing Sunnys tank I figure I can't go wrong. I have till tomorrow morning before anyone will be able to ship..
The Aquactinics come with 1 more light and rates alot higher then the Tek. Hoping I made the right choice, thoughts on the Aquactinics before I order?

Thanks

when you say "kicked the bucket" what do you mean ? did a ballast blow ? i have replaced ballasts many times as it is usually a ten minute job . is there something more serious going on with the light as they are just ballasts ,fans, endcaps, and bulbs all happily wired together .

Aquactinics are awesome lights. From everything I've read, heard, and seen, they are much better than the Teks (which are good lights as well.)

I'm no expert, but most of the time GrimReefer in the T5 Q&A thread recommends the ATI fixture over the Constellation. Although I did like the three power feeds I went with a 6x54w ATI Sunpower for my 75g 48x18 and I'm going with a ATI 8x54w Power Module for my 48x24 120g.

I have no clue what happened to the fixture, I've had it for a pretty long time and needed to be upgraded due to the reflectors. As much as I'ld like to go with the ATI seems I wont be able to.. So The Constellation will have to be the choice..Looking at Sunnys tank among others here seems like a good choice..

thoughts welcomed

cool i was just trying to help but if its old and done, then its like a parts car and just scrap it .hope your new one is brilliant !
