No tentacles?

I have a softball sized specimen of a Closed brain. Not sure of its exact species. When I first got this coral, at night he let out some long tentacles and would sweep around. And for the past 5-7 nights, there have been none!

It is mid-way up in my tank, under 2 x 175 mh and 2 x 96 PC/Actinic. Very decent flow. Regular water changes, Nitrates under 10, pH 8.2, temp 79, Ammonia and Nitrite 0. The only thing that changed was I added a clam about a week ago. Could that have caused it? Is there anything I should check for or do?

Post a photo and maybe we can identify the species for you. Have you fed him recently. If he is not hungry, no tenacles.

Im sorry, but that is sooooooooo NOT TRUE! I spot feed all my corals 2-3 times a week, depending on time constraints, and EVERY NIGHT my brain, trumpet, candycane, frogspawn, and hammer, WITHOUT fail, have their tentacles out. The frogspawn and hammer have a few "streamers" that reach out at least 3".
Even right after I've fed them and they are done eating, their tentacles come right back out.

snulma1,
Pics are always good :) What are your alk and calc levels, and salinity?? Also has it changed color lately? Is there anything in the tank that could be bothering/picking at it? Any tissue recession, or a spot that looks damaged? I would try moving it lower, like on the sand. Sounds like you have a lot of light for it to be midway up in the tank. Also, feeding it IS a good idea, at least once a week, with meaty foods. Tonight when you feed your tank, or whenever you feed, use some juicy food like cycopeeze, frozen brine or the like and feed a little to the tank, wait 10-15 min and come back. Your brain SHOULD have its feeder/sweeper tentacles out by this time, if not, then (using an eye dropper, med dispenser or the like) SOFTLY, and SLOWLY squirt/spray some of the food directly onto the brain, it should then eat the food. If it still doesn't eat, then just give it some time. I personally wouldnt start freakin till it starts showing signs of tissue recession/damage, and hasn't eaten or shown feeder/sweeper tentacles in 2weeks, that's just my opinion though. I do hope this helps ya some though.

FWIW,
Brianna:rollface:
