Hello all, I just bought a bakpak2r for my system last night, and I am very disapionted at how loud it is. I hade to unplug it due to it keepng me awake last night it is so loud. It had the maxijet 1200 pump with it. The one at the fs was quiet, should take it back or is there something I am not doing right? :(

They are loud. You just can't hear at the LFS due to all the other noises in there. I used one for a year and came to the conclusion that they are junk. A CSS would be much better for you. Or a Deltec MCE600 if you can afford. It's the best HOB skimmer made. I wish I would have not bought three other skimmers to find they were junk and just bought the best from the get-go. You get what you pay for I guess.

Good luck

Well I found the problem, the pump was against the glass. I cant believe I missed that. Even after my extensive repair ( lol ) it is still loud. I guess you are right you get wat you pay for. I guess something is better than nothing. Oh well I plan on a diy 10 gallon progect and maybe I will sell it to finance the new skimmer. Oh well thanks for your replys.

I had a bakpak and that was the loudest freakin thing. Sounded like it was grinding rocks. I don't really understand it either, it's the maxijet that's so loud. I had a maxijet 1200 on my seaclone and that thing was really quiet, but on a bakpak it isn't. I've also heard that Rio's make a bakpak much quieter. I'm with spongebobby though, I now own a Deltec MCE600, talk about quiet. Cost an arm and leg though, I'm still trying to convince myself it was worth it.

The noise now is a steady humm, I assumem it is from the pump whem I shut the air off it goes to almost nothing. It still humms but not as bad. I do get noise caused by the bubbles but I assume that is normal. I just did not expect the pump to be so loud. I did cover the air line with a rag and the noise did not seem to change. maybe I will try tie rio pump some time before I give up. thanks all.

I've quieted mine down (but far from silent) by replacing the standard air tubing with a length (3-4 feet) of silicone air tubing.
