Normal noiselevel new skimmerpump

I have just started my new great Tunze 230/3 skimmer, it is
working fine and have been skimming surprisingly well considering
I started it just yesterday.

I have one problem though. The pump is making a lot of noise,
according to the pump manual some initial noise could be
expected but should disappear within a week or so. But how
much noise is "normal" for a completely new pump? Is this
a normal problem? What is causing the noise? What to do if
it does not disappear?

Thanks
Johan

Johan,

In the manual you will see a part called the lower bearing, it is the part on top when you are looking down at the impeller, it is a collar that the brakes engage on. The collar sometimes slips in shipping and excessive noise can be fixed by pushing this down and making sure the drive unit is seated- push down firm on the impeller assembly after checking and pressing in the lower bearing. Outside of this, in a couple weeks the noise should be half but certainly when new I don't think you should hear the noise unless you are very close. There is one other possibility. Turn of the skimmer and close the venturi all the way, start the pump, then after some minutes open the venturi 2.5-3 turns as recommended by the manual- this will get the bubbles out of the pump that can make noise.

Thanks for your fast reply. I was able to push "the inner rotor
bearing" a bit further down, and the "bearing bush" was a bit
loose so I pushed that in to place as well. Now the noise has
been reduced, thanks a lot!
