Hey guys had a diatom bloom past few days and now I am seeing strings with air bubbles on ends maybe a .5-1cm long but just noticed they are on the sand and rocks and releasing bubbles into the tank....

Just curious is this a normal algae?? And I don't Have a clean up crew in tank yet but I read u want to wait for it to accumulate so the crew has food to eat for more than a day or so.....

Here is a pic of what I have happening

Probably cyanobacteria. New tank, I'm guessing? Normal to come and go, even in established tanks. Suck it out with an airline hose or RO line if you'd like.

That's typical of any new tank I've set up. Expect to see things come and go for 4-6 months. Keep up with normal water changes and don't get too excited to add sensitive corals for about that long. I normally add "canary" sps gradually in a new set up. I'll start when I've had soft or LPS corals in the tank for a couple f weeks. I'll toss a monti or birdsnest in and see how it does. I'll wait a few weeks and then gradually add more sensitive species. It takes time, but it's way better than adding a lot too early and having a new tank swing for the worst. With good husbandry, you'll be in good shape in 6-9mos, then really doing well in a year.
