If anyone saw some of my past posts I was beginning to think that my philippine mantis in the 40g had died. After almost 6 weeks I finally saw him yesterday. I am starting to think the the very best way to catch a mantis is with live brine shrimp. Everytime I feed my 20g with live brine shrimp all three of the mantis in there come out. That's how I finally saw my mantis in the 40g. I usually don't feed that tank with live brine shrimp so yesterday when I did the philippine showed up within 5 minutes and was greedily snacking away.
This morning I was watching the tank, fed some live brine shrimp, and a few minutes after the philippine started popping up here and there to eat, I see a little baby phillipine mantis peaking out of a hole! This guy is a runt, maybe 1/2". Never having seen him, and being so small, I was wondering if he came into the tank as larvae?
Anyways, now I know there's a mantis in the 40g again and another little guy as well.

hey fcam

the 1/2" mantis was probably hidden in a rock or something.
you would be surprised as to where these little fellows can hide.
ive seen my little 1/2" mantis in some very tight holes which i would have never of know about if i wasnt trying to find him in the 1st place!

i have got 3 1/2" mantis in 1 tank and i have noticed that they begin to build a burrow in the sand and after a week or so they abandon the burrow and move into a cave in the liverock.
this has been done by my all the 3 1/2" mantis so far!

the new mantis i got friday ( beutiful green colour) begun digging the moment he got in the tank and over the weekend i saw some major digging activity but yesterday i went to feed him and he had moved. after searching for a minute i saw his little eyes looking back at me from a nice natural cave (very deep) in some live rock. i dont know why he moved but he did?

have you ever noticed this fcam?

all mantis having been taking food while digging and still do in their caveman homes:confused:
