Ocean Pure Salt

If you've used this salt brand, can you please reply with your results? I'd like to know what kinds of test kit results you're getting (alk, ca, mg, po4), and how your livestock is doing - as well as what kind of livestock you keep.

Please don't reply with another brand, as this isn't a discussion about what is better. I just want to get your thoughts on this salt - good or bad.

Thanks!

I was about to do that. So....

Marc, lots of people in the SOCal area use it as it's imported by a local importer and he sells it in his two stores. ;)

I personaly haven't used it, I use NSW ;), but I've only heard good things about it. I think there was a thread in the SoCal forum about it. Good luck on your quest.

Hi Marc,

I have been using it for the last few months with no problem on both my 180G reef and my new 280G Reef. I find that it dissolves very quickly and is less expensive than other salts in this area ($31.00 for 200G box). I tested it a batch for the first time three weeks ago from my usual weekly 35G change on the 280G with RO/DI water and got the following results:

SG 1.025
Temp 75
CA 400 (Salifert)
Alk 8 (Salifert)
MG 1280 (Salifert)
NA 0 (Salifert)
PO4 0.0 (Hanna)
PH 8.2 (Pinpoint)
ORP 220 (Red Sea)

Mike - What salt did you use previously, and since changing did you observe any livestock issues?

Your ORP is quite low.

I was using it for awhile. The numbers were actually great, mag around 1300, calcium around 460, alk around 8 DKH. Only reason I stopped using it is because it's a pain for me to get in my area.

Only place that has it near me is a place near where I work. Since I take the train to work, lugging buckets of salt home on the train isn't exactly fun. So I went to IO. If it wasn't for logistics, I'd still be using it, I really like the salt.

I was using IO. Colors got a bit stronger but not a lot, no changes in growth or anything else and I do not have to adjust the CA before adding it.I have used around six boxes (200G each) of the stuff.

trmiv,

Where were you getting it at? I get it from Lucky Goldfish in Oakland but that is a long drive for me from Dublin.

That's exactly where I was getting it. I work in downtown Oakland.

Those were measurement in the batch of new water. I do oxygenate the water before it goes into the tank by letting my mixing pump suck some air for a few minutes before it goes in. The tank OPR is running 360-370 when the lights go out 400-410 when the lights go on.

The reason us Texans are curious is because our club is setting up a group buy for this stuff and the price is pretty much unbeatable. I, myself, am looking to get three 200 gallon bags but we just don't know much about it.

So.....any other SoCal reefers want to chime in? I know there's a ton of you out there.
