Odontodactylus Scyllarus

hi folks just a quick question about a missing hammer. Do they grow back in time or will they have to live without?

They will grow back after a couple of molts usually, so it will take some time.

They can live without it in captivity without much problem if you're feeding them unshelled foods.

Is it advisable to avoid standard cleaning practices while they molt to avoid disturbing them, or do they hole up well enough to not care?

I have found that it's best to leave everything alone while they molt unless there is an emergency.

Yeah, it's a good idea to hold off on water changes if you know your mantis is molting.

If you stay up on tank maintenance and weekly water changes, most tanks can survive an extra week without any problems.

Oh absolutely, just was curious how much they need their alone time.

They'll probably be closed up in their burrow when they molt, so things like cleaning the glass/acrylic and changing filter floss are fine to do. Just avoid anything that would change the water chemistry during a molt.

Gotcha, thanks!
