Anybody using Odyssea lighting?? I found a site with great price on a fixture and pendant system. 2x175W MH, 2x96W compact actinic, and 6 LED's for $340. Want any feedback on anyone familiar with the brand

I have that unit (6 months). Haven't had any trouble except the cooling fans going bad, but they were easily replaced. They use to be Jebo I think and have a bit of an uphill battle with respect to reputation. im summary...no issues for me.

I have the odyssea 4x65 watt pcs and I love it...it was really cheap and makes my tank look great...the only problem ive had is that the fans started a vibrating noise when the unit was placed on it legs. Ive now put it in a canopy and it doesnt do that anymore

A quick word on Odyssea (oddy-sea? :) ) - you don't want their 175W setup. Essentially, they're using a 150W Double ended bulb and overdriving it using a single-ended ballast to 175W.

Doing this will alter the color characteristics, as well as siginificantly lower the bulb life.

Also - the bulbs that come with them are pretty bad. The "20,000K MH bulb" isn't 20,000K and the actinics are DEFINITELY not actinic. Replace the bulbs ASAP.

That said, I have their 150W unit (with the proper ballast) and really like it.

I haven't seen a lot of their older fixtures, but am of the opinion that their quality has improved dramatically over the past year.

I would have absolutely no problem using one of their PC fixtures and would use MH with no problems as long as the bulbs were replaced.

But then again, I'd replace the bulbs on the PC as well.

As far as their T5's go, I wouldn't touch them. Their reflectors are crap, and the ballasts are terrible.

thanks for the imput, keep it coming...

psimitry- sounds like if I would need to replace the bulbs right away it might just be the same cost a going with a different maker????

i got a 305w

175w HQI 20,000k & 2x65w actinics

nothing wrong with it, no problems... but i will be replacing the 175w with a 10,000k bulb

I considered this unit also before I decided on the Aqua spacelight, and received similar responses regarding the bulbs. You might consider going retro especially if you intend to buy the unit and replace the bulbs, cost will be similar but quality would be better.

I dunno -

I was looking at getting a PC fixture w/ 4x 65W bulbs and then replacing them (and two others for another fixture I have) including shipping came to be about $50 less than the Current USA Orbit 48" fixture I was looking at.
