Office Water Cooler for Chiller

Is there not a way to use a standard office water cooler as a chiller?

Punch a hole in the top of the 5G jug and pump the RO water straight into it to keep it full.

Then pump chilled RO water straight into the sump as the top off system with a float valve in the sump.

I only need to drop the water temperature by 1-2 degrees.

I'm sure someone has tried it but cannot find any posts in the DIY forum regarding this.

Using it only to refill evaporation losses will not change the temp of the whole system by much (unless your tank is extremely small and needs alot of make up water).

What you could try is to have a reservoir of water in the cooler and pump tank water through a long section of coiled hose that is submerged in the reservoir and back to the sump.

Unfortunately, this will only work if you need to change the temp on a relatively small system. Other people have tried it with small refrigerators that have a 5g bucket of water inside.

Here is a Link to a thread where it was talked about..

It would pretty much be a waste of time.. A small fan blowing over the sump would work 10 times better.. If you need more then that your better off just getting a chiller.

Good Link Karl KZ

I really wish they would just make a thread like that a Sticky..Seems like these threads pop up every week about a Dorm fridge or water cooler...
