Oh no!! What will come of my Crocea?

In Memoriam
I have a small crocea clam. I had put it in the sand. But I thought I could give it more light if I moved it to another spot. Since it was in the sand I didn't think it would have attached to anything. So I just went to lift it up, but I met resistance. And much to my dismay I found that it had been attached to a shell burried under the sand. I had no idea the shell was there. Now it seems like the clam's foot has torn off (I say this because their was a chunk of tissue stuck on the shell). There's no hole in the clam where the foot usually comes out... but I haven't seen the foot since this happened.

I asked someone at my LFS and he said the clam would likely die in a few weeks. Is that true?!?! :( It doesn't look at all unhealthy. It's only been a few days, but so far it doesn't look at all different. It still opens up nicely during the day and closes half-way at night. It reacts to anything that touches it (like crabs or snails).

What should I do? Is there anything I can do? I feel so awful. If I had known it had anchored to something I never would have tried to move it.
