I have personally kept stomatopods with a few different types of mushrooms and green star polyps. All were ignored by the stomatopods.

That being said, realize that stomatopods eat a lot (and make a lot of waste), and eat the janitorial staff. Keeping your water quality high enough for the more fragile corals will be a challenge.
Don't forget the physical impact a mantis can have on corals too -- from merely clamboring over them while exploring to actively breaking them down for construction materials.

If you insist on including corals with your stomatopod, I would advise only including the hardiest.

I would also recommend a low light setup. You'll have fewer problems with algae, and I believe that Dr. Caldwell mentioned that many stomatopods do better under low light conditions.

i'd have to agree on shrooms. my mantis leaves them alone so far. also some caulerpa looks nice in the tank too and helps by absorbing a bit o nitrate while adding a splash of green to the tank.

orkspace,
GRENDEL IS THE MAN!!!! i cant believe how cool he is, thanks for the advice,im gonna step down to a 20g hex and use like 2 13w pc from ah supply. will that be too much light. also will i be able to still keep a few shrooms with. i just wanna add some more color to the tank!!
thanks again

Hey Mike! Those 13 watt P.C.'s don't last that long. In the past year I've changed mine 3X on my 10 gal. reef. (2x13w 6400k, 2x13w blue) That's on a 12&1/2 hr cycle. So if you do the 13 watters, stock up on the bulbs. Once the bulbs start to get a lil old, polyps & brains act funny. Other than that they are great.

thanks cuda6872,
i guess ill step up to the 2 32w retro pc!i hope thats not gonna be to much for him in my 20 aga hex.what sandbed should i use cc or southdown with a dsb!i also need advice on a skimmer a cpr or a remora. i know you can put the heater in the cpr which might be a plus since i dont want clutter in the tank.he also wont be able to break it then!all suggestions are appreciated i would really like to hear from people who use either of them
thanks again
mike

i know my threads can get a little long winded but im tryin to cut them down

I asked Anthony Calfo about this (he wrote The Book of Coral Propagation) and he said mushrooms and xenia elongata should be fine/safe from the bug. I didn't ask about anything more difficult than those. (I'm planning a real low-cost setup: 15w NO trichromatic over a 10g tank. Got the live sand free from a friend who's moving; now I just need some cheap live rock and then the critters. :-)

Go for the remora with the maxi jet 1200. Its a much better skimmer than the bak pak. The remora works ok with the rio 800 but the maxi 1200 gives it a litte more kick. I have both the bak pak 2,remora, and a remora pro on its way.
The bak pak is cool in some ways because you can stuff the heater in the bio chamber. However, you could fit a heater in the remora as well on the return side you just need to run the cord out the return or get creative. I have used the remora on my main octo tank and it has impressed the hell out of me from day one. The bak pak is built into the cpr mrt I have my Gonodactylus chiragra. It has the air stone mod I put in, it and still is half the beast the remora is. When the remora pro comes in I'll stick the remora on my O.scyllarus tank.
