old FW tank as sump for mantis tank

i have an old 20g FW tank that is lying around and i thought i might as well use it as a sump for my 10g mantis tank.

my questions are...

is it safe to use an old FW as a sump for a mantis tank?

i had read that it seems mantis shrimps are extremely sensitive to household cleaning products, i know for sure bleach and windex have been poured into the tank and sat for some time...should i even consider using this tank as a sump?

can it be cleaned so that it is safe to use as a sump?

thanks

josh

bleach is no big deal...a diluted version is in the tap water you drink. It's just chlorine that will evaporate eventually anyway.

Windex is another story altogether. if I were you, I'd set it up as a fish only tank for a month or so with a damsel or two and see if they make it. If so, tear down the tank, clean it out again really well, then set it up again as a sump with the damsel.

yeah i guess i could try that...my concern is and maybe Dr. Roy can help is that i thought i read that mantis shrimps are extremely sensitive to household cleaners...so would i even be able to tell from a damsel experiment?

thanks

josh

oh and what other ways are there to do a good job cleaning out an old tank other than vineagar?
