Sam,

You gotta read more closely. The person(s) who need to contact me are those who are using more than one RC name. Using another name to stir things up is not appreciated! :mad2:

omg... if this guy cant make a little colorful off center joke?

If he clearly follows the rules set fourth in the TOS, manages to find a way to express himself in a different manor and is still harassed, bullied and oppressed?

There are so many combinations of letters that could be placed in the *** that can change their meaning and diction-

Whilst the "mod" is holding (in his very constrained/conservative opinion) the TOS to action.... but how about the 1st Amendment?

"hold not thy tounge for fear of offense, yet lie it still for self respect"

If you don't like the post... don't read it.

^^^^That was the old USA

The new USA says "You can have freedom of speech until you **** somebody off."

Kinda makes one wonder what we're fighting for 15,000 miles away......

Sad isn't it!!

Sorry, doesn't work that way here. We have a very mixed audience, with very young children present (some lookingover their parent's shoulders, some posting in their own right). We try and maintain a "family friendly" atmosphere. This sin't a locker room or an old boys' club. If that bothers you, there are plenty of places that will allow you to post your comments to your creative delight.

Finally, a word about the 1st Amendment. RC is a private establishment. You have no right to "freedom of speech" here. We try to allow people as much freedom to express their opinions within the guidelines I mentioned, but this is a private site. If you don't like our rules, go somewhere else.

Kevin

Sir, I would disagree... the first amendment provides guidance to all establishments operating with in the scope of the constitution of the united states. For you to suggest that it does not apply hear is almost like McCarthy accusing the ACLU of being communist.

I would urge you to keep that in mind for it may place you in a poor legal position the future.

That sir, is my creative delight. Perhaps a little more liberal than you would like.

I whole heartedly agree that we should protect our youth from unnecessary corruption, however, not at the expense of the rights that allow us to protect them at all.

If you would like to speak more about this please feel free to PM me and I would be happy to discuss via email or TelCon.

Thanks

Josh

I personally think that the mods here are doing a great job keeping everyone in line. I think they are very fair and unbiased. They take the time to explain things. Like Anemone said, this is a privately owned forum. Don't go on this privately owned forum and disrespect their rules. Think about what happened when a moron (Michael Peter Fay) went to someone elses land and disrespect their rules.

No shirt, no shoes, no service. I think the same applies to RC when it comes to language. They run the show around here and it's there rule not ours, and it's there right seeing it is privately operated. But who am I to say, I really dont give a *%^&, as long as we all have rights, right.

Josh,

Your opinion on our legal standing is noted. However, the courts have repeatedly upheld the right of PRIVATE ownership and the interaction of the 1st Amendment and property rights. You can try and carry a protest sign onto private property, or exercise your "freedom of speech" on private property, but you will be promptly told that you need to move to the public sidewalk or you will be arrested (and your arrest upheld at the Supreme Court). This forum is not the public sidewalk. It is private property.

Plus, you agreed that we can edit anything we want when you agreed to the User Agreement.

Reef Central reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to refuse to post or remove any material submitted to or posted on the chat rooms, message boards or on any other user or member-generated pages.

This has taken a far more politcal turn than intended - you see we also prohibit the discussion of politics and religion on RC because they distract from the atmosphere we try and encourage. Otherwise friendly and "normal" people seem to lose their cools and become complete jerks when the subject of politics or religion arises. This was originally intended only to point out that the "right" to freedom of speech does not exist on RC. We all post here with the owner's permission - permission that can be revoked for any (or no) cause.

FWIW,
Kevin

PS - I doubt seriously whether one's ability to post asterisks on an aquarium hobbyist message board will greatly impact the rights this country was founded on, and certainly "not at the expense of the rights that allow us to protect them at all." A bit dramatic, don't you think?

I agree with everything you have said anemone but I feel that southern california reefers club is much more laid back and casual than the rest of the site and should be granted more freedoms such as asteriks.
Just my opinion

But that is the point - this forum is still part of the site. The same rules apply. Once one group starts to feel they are "special" and deserve "special rules," the site becomes unbelievably harder to moderate. You moderate one way here, and a different way there, and people have a tendecy to cry foul (and rightly so) - especially the folks who get "moderated."

The rules HAVE TO BE evenly enforced, or charges of bias (which happen anyways) become true.

Kevin

A lot of things have been overlooked in this forum... even in this thread. JMO

One thing to remember is that this is not a club! This is a So Cal forum, a forum that no one else on this board has! If this was an actual club forum, it would be used for club, and club members business, and not a locals only free for all!

Just follow rules.....how hard is that?

Do you think Anenome constantly baby sits this forum because he enjoys it....give the guy a break and don't use astericks.
