Oppinions on food

I ran out of Dr. G's gut loaded brine the other day and picked up this Hikari bio-pure mega marine algae in a bind. It seems to be a much better quality than Dr. G's. The spirulina looks as if it comes in little sacks that my fish go crazy for. Also when i thaw it out in a cup before feeding the water that it thaws in remains clean and clear instead of dirty looking.

Here is a link to the site but there is not a lot of info. I was curious if anyone has tried this stuff and what they thaught of it. Also im interested to see what the consensus is for the best frozen food.:D

You will find most here use roggers reef food, its a top notch product. Others here make our own food using recipes similar to roggers or other recipes found on this site. That reminds me I need to make more food soon.

Using the Roggers food do you still need to supplement tank with the Amino Acids etc. I purchased a bottle of Fuel which was highly recommended which is a reef builder etc.

I feed spectrum A+ pellet 2 x day everybody eats it and all fish are perfect specimines once/twice a week Rogers reef on a clip pouch once a week 2littlefisy's Nori strip on clip I use to put Selcon drops on Rogers food and pellets havnt seen a diffirence since stopping that

I hear a lot about Roggers reef but i cant find it. I have seen the pouches but does it come in cubes to make it easier for individual feedings?

About adding amino acids, i was only talking about fish food. Does roggers have food for corals in it as well?

I do the nori as well but its more for them to graze on through out the day. I use to do the pellets but i was told that they are not as good for the fish as frozen. They also add more nitrates to the water than frozen. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't think roger has cubes , but if you take the whole frozen thing in cut it into pieces you can store them in a tupperware

Jason, feeding spirulina enriched brine shrimp have a good place in our hobby.
Real spirulina is one of the most nutritional algae that exist and live brine shrimp is almost irresistible to fish but has no significant nutritional value.
Live enriched brine shrimp is a very old trick that is utilized in many industries to feed the fries of fish and farmed shrimp.
In our hobby it is very important to get fish to eat as soon as we get them, the reason for this is because of the long chain that this fish goes through before they arrive to your tank, by the time they arrive they could have gone days w/o eating, this is very bad as some times their organism shut down and they can no longer eat and die.
This is the reason why you want to see fish eat at the stores before you buy them and it is very important to get them to eat quick once you acclimate them in your tank, it is also important that what ever little they eat better be nutritious.
Live brine shrimp has a natural live movement that most fish cannot resist to start feeding and spirulina has a ton of protein but very fine and difficult to get fish to eat it. So it is a very good initial food, but not a long term maintenance food.
It is very easy to do your own enriched live brine shrimp, just dissolve the spirulina powder in the water were the brine shrimp is and allow the brine shrimp to ingest but not digest the algae, the key for this process to be successful is the timing, you must feed the brine to your fish as soon as their guts are filled with spirulina, you will know this when their bellies look like a large green ball. If you allow the brine shrimp to digest the spirulina then the nutritional value decreases. So observation and timing is key.
I assume that commercially available enriched brine shrimp is probably not easy to make mostly because of the size scale and the timing between feeding, packing and freezing.

Well said Rogger.
Reason you want to get fish to eat ASAP is because in transit to our hobby, fish might not get anything to eat for 3-4 days.
Think about you not eating for that period of time? Personally I get cranky if I skip lunch!!!!
Your body starts digesting fats instead of proteins and carbohydrates. Some by-products of fats are poisonous to your systems in large quantities and can "paralyze" the normal function primarily of your liver.
Well....pretty much the same thing with fish applies. Of course there are other variants but to keep it simple, same concept applies.
So again K.I.S.S...getting them to eat ANYTHING to begin is best.
But honestly, there is NOTHING more nutritional and complete than ROGGERS.

I think he's talking about frozen brine that was enriched prior.

Jason, most people I know will cut a chunk of Rogger's reef food and place it in a clip using a piece of gutter guard. The fish eat it thru the gutter guard. And the bulk of the food is stationary until most of it is eaten.

hey i just spoke with someone from roggersfood .com through email they said we can do a group buy and will ship to each person seprately let me know im down to do it.. $99 free shipping just need a few buyers

I don't think anyone in south Florida needs to worry about shipping. The food is made locally.

Excellent but after all that process I've already had 3 beers and cleaned my skimmer and sump, cause I split a piece of Roger's food put it in the mesh and done.

There's all of the above besides black worms all in one w/o excess and QUALITY ingredients.
