OT: How many divers are there on this forum

I am a diver and I have dived locally.

I am a diver and I have dived locally.

The great lakes are perhaps the best place for wreck diving. Quite a few right here in Lake Michigan. In July through September the water is quite nice, with visability that will crush any quarry (with the exception of Haigh during it's first open season). Vis in Lake Michigan is easily 45 feet or better.

Here's a great one to dive just off Waukegan: http://www.ship-wreck.com/shipwreck/projects/elgin/

I must add at this point that although the Lady Elgin is a beautiful wreck dive, between 4 and 5 hundred people died on her.
May God bless their souls.

If you like paddlefish dive here:

There's a great dive club out of Lagrange called Atlantis Divers.
They were involved in creating the first open water cirtification offered anywhere and as I understand it all of the other programs have branched off of them. YMCA.

Here is their website (although it is not exactly up to date).

They do pumpkin diving in France Park, each year depending on attendance. A great group.

Heres a link to they YMCA scuba program website:

Best of luck, go slow, you see more...

Count me in.....I've logged 29 dives to date...been certified since Feb. 2004! Cozmel, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Key Largo, Nassua and St. Thomas thus far! Belize in 2007!

Group DIVE anyone?

I am certified as well. Did mine at Lake Mead outside Vegas! I havent done that many dives since I got certified. 3 in Hawaii (Kauai, Maui, Big Island) and in La Paz Mexico. Belize is probably next on my list just need the extra time and money!!!

Nekton Cruises has a liveaboard that goes to Belieze. We could all book on the same boat! I have over 300 dives now.

Racenrich, I am about where you are maybe a couple of more. I think a group dive may be in order this spring or summer, locally. Puffer, I would love to to a live aboard but funds are low right now. Besides, a group dive to another state will be logistical nightmare. Not that I wouldn't, I could see alot of problems with it. I think we should try one locally first then try one abroad.

We are actually planning a trip this june to the Carribean or Mexico. Thinking Cozumel or Punta Cana, but still open to other ideas. Neither of us is certified, but we are planning on Scuba classes after the new year

Got my PADI Cert. in April of this year and went to Jamaica in May for 3 weeks logged about 20 dives.
None of my friends are willing to get certified. It would be great to meet and dive around here.

Forget Punta Cana (that's the DR right?). Nothing good to see thereuggest Bonaire, Roatan or Curacao. All have shore diving right off their resorts, in addition to boat dives.

Bob Fenner & a bunch of us from WetWebMedia will be going to Cozumel in June. You guys are more than welcome to meet us there!

I got my cert in July atthe place near rockford....

I also went to Haigh Quarry and I did see the padlefish but nobody believed me :)

Also origally NAUI certified in the late 80's, off the coast near Boston, still remember that day I got it..... the water was 42 degrees, our lips were swollen like purple balloons,.......I plan to get my kids trained when they are a little more responsible.

PADI lowered the certification age to 10. Big mistake, I think... I saw my 10 year old niece constantly floating upwards. Her dad had to keep pulling her back down.

i think we are planning on the end of feb or early march...BEFORE THE SPRING BREAKERS...scuba trip...hoping on belize, yet we have friends that are dive masters in cozmel and they hook us up nicely..............

I also have a connection to stay in the "almost downtown area" for $800 per week...sleeps 6 people; 6 night-7 days...3 bedroom house, 2 baths, veranda, private entrance....really nice!

Split that 6 ways, just under $150 each for a weeks STAY! Rental car, up to 5 people was $75 for the week, air fare is under $400 RT, 13 dives-12 days dives and one night dive about $350....plus drink diving and food, you can spend less that $1100 for a WHOLE WEEK!

Now that is a vaca!
Whos in?

Rich K :D

I've been certed for 20 years or so. I haven't dived in the ocean for 7 years but do get to "dive" 2 times a week in the shark tank at Adventure Aquarium. <-- Does that count?
