OT: question about lacie external hard drive

I have had mine for a couple months and I could have sworn that it derived its power from the usb and not a power chord.

am I wrong?

atm, I have mine plugged into the USB and I am not getting any power to the hard drive. If there is a powerchord, opps I guess I lost it.

I though external hard drive or drive have to run a power cord, the USB is just to tranfer the info into the computer.

here's the deal.... if it's 2.5" hard drive it will be able to power up from a powered USB port. If it's 3.5" hard drive you need a power supply.

That's not always true. It depends on the quality of the usb port and the individual drive.

I recently bought a LaCie/Porsche Design 3.5 external HD and it came with its own power cord. I know this for a fact because I am currently having power cord issues. The plug won't stay inside the receptacle because the opening is too large - anyone know how to "crimp" the metal receptacle so that the plug will fit snug (sorry for the hijack)?

lastin1....why dont you show everyone a link to a bus powered 3.5" USB 2.0 drive?

What part of my posts imply that 3.5" drives would work?
