OT: WOOT! Got a wii ;P

I want to buy a ps3 down the line... or maybe a 360 so I can play halo 3... but the wii is SOOOO much cheaper, and so much more FUN to play. the graphics are really good too. Not quite on par with the others... but the fun factor PWNS!

My wife got it at Best Buy... not sure which one, though. I was told that they get one or two every week or so... you just gotta get to know someone who can tell you when the shipment is due... then u gots to wait in line!

You cant get em on the website right now. If I hear of anything I will LYK.

If I get the chip, does that null the warranty? I know with the PSP had some hacks could do, but you ran the risk of breaking the PSP. :(

I think I will just buy the games.... :)

The PSP "hacks" are easy for any computer-literate person (or .net dev, in this case). Sure you can "brick it, but if you follow the instructions, you'll be ok. Besides, you dont need to do any soldering.

The wii involves soldering the chip on board. You need to download the ROMs (which is rarely legal) because the original carts wont do you any good without the proper hookups (which very, very few people have).

If you have an original xbox, youd be better off chipping that instead. Cheaper and less risk (in terms of loss).

the problem I saw on threads about the psp hacks is that when you downgrade the firmware, there is no gurantee that it will continue to work... or that you will be able to re-upgrade it once it is downgraded. It doesnt really have anything to do with comp. literacy. and ur right... soldering a chip in my new wii is out of the question. I already started downloading games from the wii VC... and seeing how they work, I wouldnt want all my roms on the wii anyway... since it appears that all games you install appear on your wii menu... I dont want it to get overly cluttered (unless there is some way to configure that... if there is I havent had chance to look for how yet...)

Anyway, as an update to anyone interested... I finally got a chance to really play the wii a bit this weekend... and it PWNS PS2 and 360 in the FUN factor... rented a couple games including some wwII fighter pilot game (that BLEW, btw)... and wii sports is by far the most fun ive had playing a game in a long time. All my friends got in on the action, even the wife. I also played warioware and madden 07... BIG FUN. Anyone considering buying a game console should really consider the wii as their first choice..... IMHO. :)

Oh... and i did a water change this weekend too. (since were on reefcentral.com after all..... LOL)

I would keep with the stock Wii and not do any modding. The system is well worth the price. I picked up cooking mama for my wife and she loves that game. I tried playing it as well and it was fun.

i saw that game at blockbuster... what is it exactly? some kind of wacky recipe game as far as i can see.... does sound kinda fun.

I should write a reefkeeping game.... in which you have to use the wiimote to keep your alkalinity and ph in check.... LOL. That would be DOPE. (patent pending)

Hey guys I picked up a Wii 2 weeks ago at Target.....Just start asking the kid at the electronics counter, they get memos when they are expecting a big shipment that always comes in on Sunday mornings at opening. Each Target gets around 15+ up here. They haven't got any shipments in the last 2 weeks so they should be due soon, just ask, but be prepared to get to Target early on Sunday morning cuz mine gave out numbers at 7am to those in line. The controllers and nunchucks are really hard to find too, so I'd advise picking those up as you see them for when you get the Wii, cause its a group console. My friends like Rayman fo rthe Wii too.

JeffersonReef: If your PSP is old enough, you wont need to do any downgrading. Just some firmware emulation magic and youre golden. Minimal risk involved this way. You'd have to me a complete idiot to go into the wrong menus and activate the wrong things to be able to do any damage but like I said before, as long as you can follow instructions (and dont go exploring in the menus) you'll be fine.

I'm still on the search for a wii. If the HDMI version of the xbox360 comes out soon, I'll probably hop on that though (just got a new HDTV). Most likely depends on what I can get my hands on first.

I'd expect to see an announcement on the HDMI Xbox360 tomorrow/wednesday Start googling for Xbox 360 Elite in the morning. MS said they were making a big announcement for the 360, and most speculation is that it's the "elite" announcement. If not, it may just be a firm in-store date for H3

For reference, the Elite is supposed to be HDMI ready and fitted with a 120G drive. Pretty sure they'll be looking for total entertainment convergence with that release.

EDIT!!! The announcement was made about 3 hours ago.

April 29 for Xbox 360 with HDMI aka Elite.

'night folks,

Yeah. Unfortunately it wont have the 65nm chip nor an intergrated HD DVD drive. I may still do it, though.

I think the no HD DVD drive was a smart move. Remember Beta vs VHS? I think this time Sony may just win out :) If that ends up being the case, the external drive architecture will easily let MS add Blue Ray capability while not having to scrap the console.

I have to go find a waiting list to get on for my Elite :D

It'll be interesting if Microsoft adds blu-ray support after they dumped a lot of money into the R&D for the HDD-DVD and that is the technology they are trying to push.

Although I have blu-ray I have to say I like the idea for the HDD-DVD to support std dvds on the other side. Something that blu-ray doesn't support.

Chris, let us know when you get one. As soon as you do, I will start to mysteriously run out of kitchen supplies (ie ketchup, sugar, etc).... and you are so close, I may just pop my head in. ;)
Eh neighbor..? :)
