I came home to find one of my deep water acros had fallen into my red watermelon :(. It looks pretty bad. I dipped it in TM dip just to help with the healing process if it will even heal. This does not look good. What do you guys think??? Any chance of saving this guy??

I think it will be just fine. Might lose a good chunk of that part in the middle, but echinos usually rebound from damage pretty well. Good luck with it!
 
I agree, and that wound looks pretty clean(not slimy/snotty) so that will help your odds if you can keep it like that. Syphon out any infection if it occurs.

I'd frag that acro a little past its receding tissue to as to help avoid any infection from spreading too.

If the echino doesnt receed anymore Id speculate itd be about 4-5 weeks before it covers over completely, 6-8 for it to be virtually unnoticable.

My guess is that it will be OK. I think it will take more time though. My echinos and micros have taken longer than a few weeks to heal. They were hit by an acan echinata though. How much damag did the acro have?
 
Let it be, fragging would cause more stress,Just keep it in the same flow lighting and it should recover fine
 
Sorry to see that. What a beautiful piece! It it always surprising to me the damage these beautiful corals can cause. I hope it pulls through for you. I would agree with downset though and wait before fragging it. I think that would cause more stress. Just try to keep slim from building up on it. Good luck!
 
Thanks all, I feel much better with all the positive comments. That is how it looked right after the dip. I thought it looked pretty clean myself. I put it right back where it has been sitting for the past 5 months. It gets a bit of flow there. The acro had no damage what so ever, just a bit of the watermelon hanging off of it. Thankfully it was a tip that laid on the echino and not some fat branch that torched the whole thing. Gosh I hate it when this happens. I will only frag it if it seems like it is turning for the worse, otherwise I am going to just let it be and send it TLC through the glass :)
 
hope all gets well with that one, the colors are amazing. didn't think acros can cause that much damage to neighboring corals....
 
I wish they would get along as well :). After further inspection of the deep water acro this morning it appears it lost a bit of flesh on the tips. They seemed to have done a number on each other but the watermelon took the major hit. It looked about the same this morning so that is good. No worse in this situation seems like a good sign :). We'll see how it looks tonight when I get home.
 
I know, super fast huh?! I was quite amazed when I took a closer look at it this morning. Needless to say I am thrilled. I think the quick dip after removing the acro frag really helped...it was a very clean wound as well.
