Oxypora growth question

I bought this oxypora a while back and it was shaped a little like a bowl (the pic below is at dinner time).

The bottom was all hard structure and looked like it had been attached at a 2" round point when it was harvested.

If I frag it, will it attach to live rock and "reach" out in a plate-like structure - making its own support? I've tried all the readings and internet searches and really don't have a good answer to how they attach and grow.

Thanks in advance,

longra, even chalices will form over the object they are growing on. They still create a skeleton underneath but it grows to the dips and valleys of the rock it is placed on.

Yup, or it might nodule up, or furl over...
That's the great part of chalice collecting, they're incredibly variable AND changeable.
Nice coral btw.-Jim
