I havent seen any series of pictures that shows the transformation of the colloration in angelfishes, so here is the boss in my tank and his transformation! The whole way from tiny juvinile to adult (almost).

Great thread, this is something I have recently posted about and got minimal first hand feed back. I plan on adding a Med-Lg Juvenile to my system. What is the diet you fed because the coloration seems to have come in very nicely, contrary to what I have been told and have read on this site.

I wish I had a digital camera so I could have taken pics of my emperor while he was growing up. I bought him several years ago, he started changing to his adult coloration after about 8 months in his 75 gallon home. Fed purple sea veggies, ON marine angel formula, and lots of krill, he grew rapidly. he was a good 8-9" long when I transferred him into his new 180 g home before he died. Not sure what happened, I had the tank (180g) running for 4-5 months with approx 80 lbs of live rock and about 10 anthias (which were doing wonderful) in it. Then the day I finally decided the 180 was ready and transferred ââ"šÂ¬Ã…"œthe pimpââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ along with yellow tang, blue hippo tang and pair of gold stripe maroons into the tank. Lots of SPS corals and all the 120 lbs of live rock that was in the 75 also went into the tank. For the first few days everything was going great, then all hell broke lose. Lost all the fish except the clowns, would have lost the corals but I was able to move them into a friends tank in time. After my investigation, I determined that all the sponge on the rock from the 75 died in the transfer and polluted the water. I would kick myself in the *** if I thought it would do some good. That is by far the worst feeling in the world.

I feed him mysis, artemia, formula 1 and 2 pellets, Angel formula, algea wafers and nori! And he eats anything i put in the tank!

I so am glad to hear that you all like the pictures! It is my all time favorit fish in the tank! It has got lots of personality.

Peolple that have got corals sometimes take growth pictures but i havent seen anyone (i think) that has posted growth pictures of fishes.

Here is one more picture of the fish in my tank!

have you had a problem with him nipping at certain corals? Mine did but only while he was changing to his adult coloration. No matter how much I fed him, LPS corals didn't stand a chance :)

I have no nipping problem with him/her. But i only have Euphyllias and SPS in my tank! I would say it behaves as a modell citizen!

I want one of these so bad and these pics make me want one even more, but I fear that they just get too big for a 180g and that he will eat zoos/frogspawn :(

Norberg,

Congratulations !!! Do you have clams ?

IÃ"šÃ‚´m thinking in buy a small imperator, but IÃ"šÃ‚´m afraid because I have a lot os SPS and five clams...I donÃ"šÃ‚´t want to fed him with my SPS and clams :-)

Regards

Roberto

I had mine with a maxima, durasa and crocea and never once messed with them. He did occasionally bite the tips off mont digitata when I would forget to give him his sea veggies.

Roberto i dont have clams in my tank, but i have friends that have clams with emperors so i think it would work! But you must always keep the emperor well feed, else he will start to nip at things!

Norberg, when you said well fed... How many time you feed the fella & how much? I always have problem keeping mine well fed. Its appetitie is BIG and it can really eat & eat no matter how much you feed. Do you have a over feeding issue in relations to the SPSs you got?
I like emperor angel too. They interact with people. They are like "pets".

It depends on how mutch time i have each day! Some days i only feed 1 time and some days i feed 5-6 times per day.
At least 3-4 days per week i feed until he is satisfied and dont want more food! But i have 4 more angels in my tank also so he isnt alone.
So i have a rather high bioload in the tank but i also have a strong skimmer and skim out 1,5 - 2 liters (0.4 gallon) per day from the system and wet skim 40 liters (9 gallons) once a week!

My mother is visiting me today and she didnt belive that the imperator would eat from my hand so i feed him nori and he took it from my fingers! He also recognises me and my mother in law when we enter the room where tha tank is! She use o feed my fishes when i am on business trips!
