Padding under sump?

I am just setting up a new sump and was advised to put a heavy duty foam pad (1/2") under it. I went to home depot and other stores yesterday trying to find it. Any suggestions on where to find something like this?

If you don't mind my asking,
What is the purpose of placing the foam pad under the sump? I am setting one up too and hadn't heard that before.

I used a thick bathroom shower rug (with the rubber bottom) from Wal-Mart for around $12. It works great for vibration and it absorbs any water that may spill or splash out of the sump during mantainace...then the fibers help evaporate the water. I have a Mag 9.5 and a Mag 7 in an acrylic bottom sump and they make virtually no noise.

I walked around home depot for hours looking for ideas to stop the vibrations. I finally decide on foam insulation. It's like an inch and a half thick. It works ok. I thought about carpet padding but they only sell huge rolls. Let me know are what you decide. Maybe I'll switch.

You put this under the sump or in the sump??

bmallia82,

Place the rug on the bottom of the stand and the sump on top. I had to cut about 4 inches along the length of the rug to fit in my stand (~16 1/2" depth) and used hotmelt glue to prevent the fibers from falling of the rubber mat. Just run a generous bead of glue down the length of the cut if you alter the original shape of the rug.

I used some modular rubber floor matting from Home Depot. It is better because it allows air to circulate under sumps and such so you don't end up with wood rotting underneath.

This is the closest I could find on the internet. I don't think what I found at HD was anywhere near as expensive though, and they were 1x1' tiles instead of 3x3'.

They were easy to cut to fit around the supports in the stand.
