Painting tank trim?

I have a tank that has the oak color plastic trim. I would like to paint it black. What kind of paint is reef safe that will work on plastic?

Well I mean it will be next to the water line. Its not going into the tank but it will be on the edge.

Our tank trim was all scratched up and we bought some stuff at home depot to cover it. I think it is used to cover appliances. It is an adhesive vinyl that comes in a roll that you can trim to size. If you are good with an exacto knife, you won't be able to tell that anything there. It has been 6 months and it hasn't started to peel or anything. It was pretty cheap too.

I painted mine with a black paint, I think like a latex or trim paint, because it came in a regular paint can and definitely wasn't designed for plastic or anything. I just sanded the top trim then painted over it 2 or 3 coats.
