Pavona General Comments

I know in the SPS world (and other corals) that color and shape are continuously changing.
I have a Pavona sp. that is growing but has had a radical change in a short period opposite of what I expected.

Just looking for past experience or general comments.

I found the piece in the beginning of Nov 05.
Large (about 125gal) holding tank with very little flow (maybe 350gph) and a 175MH about 24''s above the system and a good 30''+ above this Pavona.

My system is a 20gal long with 2 - Hagen 30's and Seio 620. The 30's are on a wavemaker set at a 30sec interval.
There is a 10 gal sump with a Quiet One 1200 for the return.
Skimmer is a Turbofloater 1000.
Lighting is an Outer Orbit 150watt DE 10K with 2-65watt PC's.
The pic to the right utilized 2 50/50's for the PC's and the pic to the left has the replacement 03's.

As you can tell it went from a rich orange with green to a pale peach with lighter green. There is noticable growth and when the halide is off there is more noticable reflective hue from the florescent bulbs. (the hue is more pronounced during the time of the 03's not comparing the other PC's).

I'm thinking of leaving it as is because it doesn't seem to be failing.
What do you guys think?

looks healthy to me - I have a similar piece that started as a liverock hitcher - I have never seen any orange ones like that so was likely due to some lighting anomaly or was not doing well - the greenish color is more in line with what the "lettuce" type pavona usually looks like - if it is growing I would leave it where it is at

looks a lot better now - i had one that started lightening up on me - gave it to my buddy and it a lot greener now - looks very similar

Thanks for the replies...

I'm going to leave it where it is. I liked the orange coloration, however as you can notice the tank is filling with coralline (compare the rock from the early to late) which is a good sign as well as the additional growth of the coral itself.

My green pavona started out green/brown under 175 watts of metal halides. Now under 250 watts , he is much lighter and looks quite yellow. He seems to be growing as well. I would look to growth as an indicator to determine to move him to another location.

It has considerable growth and looks quite healthy with nice coloration now.
I'll post a pic soon.
