PC supplementation for 14k MH

Hi guys/girls,

I will soon be ordering a MH and PC fixture for my tank.


The fixture comes with 2 x 150W HQI MHs and 260W of PC.

I have a choice of the color of the bulbs that come with the fixture.

I chose 14K MHs since, in my mind, they put out the whitest light.

But now I have to chose that kinds of PC I want...

Would making all 260W of PC actinic add too much blue to the tank?

(Ideally I want the illumination to be white with a tinge of blue)

Or should I have 130W PC actinic and 130W PC daylight???

The 14K halides are going to be blueish anyway you look at it, I have 2 110 watt VHO's for my actinic supplementation with my 14 K bulbs. I think you will be fine with the 260watts of PC.

The more color spectrum you can get the better in my opinion. I would go with the actinic and daylight. The 14K's will be plenty blue for you.

I have some phoenix 14ks right now but was debating bout adding two uri vho actinics to add that "pop" to it.

IMO, 14K MH don't need actinic supplemention. If your fixture comes with the PC, why not take advantage and use a 10K MH bulb with PC actinic supplementation? Nice color...better growth. Just a thought.

Do you guys think 2 x 150W MHs (10,000K) and 260W of PC actinic would be better then:

2 x 150W MHs (14,000K) and 260W of PC 50/50

or

2 x 150W MHs (14,000K) and 260W of PC daylight

i have experience with this...

I went from 14k alone to 14k with VHO actinics to 10k with actinics.
If i could do it all over again - i would not do the first two and go straight to 10k with actinics. Nice White crisp with a tint of blue - love it.

I've tried two 14K bulbs -- Phoenix and Ushio. They are night and day. Phoenix is blue and Ushio is yellow/white. The Phoenix looks nice by itself, but I like it with VHO URI superactinics. The Ushio doesn't look really good with the URIs -- yellow + purple but not enough blue. So I used them with bluish PC actinics with good results. But going back to Phoenix + URI -- the best combo for my taste.
