pendant lighting question

Okay, I apologize if this question has an obvious answer, but I'm thinking of getting pendant style lighting (either spotlight style or a spacelight).

When hanging this type of lighting do you have to hang it from a stud in the ceiling or can it just go anywhere?

Personally from a stud and I think you should... too many "what ifs" if you just do it anywhere...

What do you mean by anywhere? Yes you can hang it from a stud but you can also hang it anywhere that will hold it. Hanging it from a stud seems to look the best since there is nothing above the tank.

I think he meant in the middle of the sheetrock in between studs... while this may hold it with the right stuff I wouldn't suggest it because any little thing could break that sheetrock then it and the light go into the tank... or worse one lets loose and it swings with enough force to break the side of the tank
