Percs and Open Brain

Our new Perc pair has taken an affinity to our open brain. Can their attention (i.e. rubbing on it) do harm to the brain?

Yes the coral will eventually die. My Tomato clown was doing the same thing. The brain was withering fast. I removed the brain to my fuge and he is doing great. the clown now hosts in a toadstool leather. go figure.

Yeah I had some darn percs kill a beautiful brain coral one time, I'll never own another one, perc that is ;)

We're going to put a basket over the brain, and try to encourage the Percs to move on to something else. Unfortunately, the wife is gun shy about RTBAs after she went against my advice, and got one...before I could cover our powerhead intakes.

Can Torches or Hammers stand up to Percs? I'm also considering an Elegance coral our LFS has had for several weeks and still seems healthy.

Thanks to all who responded.

IMO, NO! I would not subject ANY LPS to a clown, they will beat the h#ll out of it and are just not worth it in my opinion.

my brain got ^#^%#^ by two percs, ever since then my skunk is in my alveapora all d time. I have a rosebubble but nobody lives in it go figure. LOL

No way, don't subject any LPS to a clown fish! It's the constant abrasive motion of the LPS flesh against it's own skeleton that will kill it, and Euphyllias and Elegances certainly fit that bill. Like I said, my clown lives in a big Sarcophyton and doesn't seem to bother it at all. An anemone is more natural for sure, depending on the species of both the fish and the anemone. Captive bred percs supposedly don't always host in anemones.
