hello everyone. i thought i remember readins somwhere that you can put phosban or reactor media in a HOB filter with a polycarbon bag or SOMEthing? as it turns out, i have a pretty high amount of phosphfats in my reef for some reason and i have no idea why. i think it might be the foods im feeding because they are mainly frozen foods.
i have a HOB filter, and will order a phosphate reactor soon hopefully online, but i jsut wanted to run it in something until i order it.
also, what are some good foods that are low in phosphate?
thanks!

yea, at petco (ino i saw it a while ago, havent stepped foot in there for over 4 months!)

they sell phosphate sponges for HOB filters, juts put it in pantyhose nad set it in thee so it will get good flow, liek make it so its right next to the impeller, so all the water touches it!

Well first of all what kind of coral do you have, or is it just fish? You have to be very careful when adding phosban or others like because you can shock acgro and other sensative coral and fish with it. Second, you have to rinse well before putting in your hob filter as if the powder from the phosban gets into the water and on the corals or if the fish breathe it in, they can die from it. With all that said it can be done. Just very slowly and carefully.

i have every type of coral.
softies, LPS, a few sps (although they dont appear to be liking the phosphates), and a clam. plus a BTA, ect. for fish all i have is a pair of false percs.
i think im going to order a phosphate reactor online at some point this week. any info you can give me on them?:)
i did get some pellets today so i dont have to feed frozen as much

The actual brand phosban reactor is a pain in the assets due to like 18 screws you screw and unscrew each time you change out the phosban. There was another I saw that looked much easier. Other then that, you fill and go. But have to collect the first water that comes out because its usually pure loose phosban. Its like instant happiness for the tank.

thanks wetreefgirl!
i think ill order one this week. Ill get a small HOB one and then jsut hook it up to my sump when i can.
