pink yuma help!!!!

I'm very sure I made a terrible mistake with my pink yuma. I had him in the corner of my tank, low flow, not really shaded, but definitely not in direct light, under my 150W 20k xm. It was doing fine for 2.5 weeks. Seems to have overcome shipping stress. Then, it's mouth started gaping more, and it started shrinking.

This is the pick after having it in my tank for 2.5 weeks. low flow, corner of the tank, not shaded, but not direct light. Lighting is not as bright in the pic (but in retrospect, maybe it was too bright).

Just 2 days ago, it's mouth started opening more, and the whole yuma started shrinking. On a positive note, it got a little more pink. So, I got worried and put it in low flow, shaded.

What are my chances of it recovering? If it will recover, how long will it take? I honestly, think it's already started to melt from the inside. The mouth is rather wide. hmmmmm......

wild caught. I know, it's always a risk w/wild caught. I thought it might be worth a chance.

Any thoughts on survival of this guy?

Thanks

Can't really tell with the photo. It is kinda fuzzy, but the mouth does look kinda big which is not a good sign. It looked pretty good in the first photo when you first got it though.

There is not much you can do but to leave it alone and hope it heals. And don't listen to anyone to tell you to frag it right now, if you try to frag now, it will melt away very quickly because if it is indeed not healthy.

Maybe take some better shots of the mouth area.

If its doing the shrinking and vomiting dance your odds aren't too good. On the other hand, I had one partial melt on me 3 times when I first got it and today its spread out and healthy. Nice yuma, hope it pulls through.

Thanks for everyone's info. I'm keeping my finger's crossed!!

lokelani808, how long did it take for your yuma to start showing signs of recovery?

I'm not sure, it def wasn't gaping nonstop for the entire 2 months. It just looked ticked off (every now and then) for some time and then one day I noticed it wasn't ticked off anymore :). Only time a yuma melted and pulled through for me, guess its just a fighter.

In my honest experience that yuma has little chance of survival, Once they spew goo out of the mouth and gape that wide open in the mouth area and shrink up like that, there is not much hope. Shade it and no flow, shade, no flow.
GL with it and be sure to keep us updated.

have you been feeding it? Try spot feeding it, give it a small mieces(is that right) shrimp. my pink got very small also then i fed it and it is back to normal

sorry to say it but mine melted away after the same symptoms you described. in fact, it was exactly the same coloration as yours. sorry and good luck.

hey ponchodog,

Was it around the same time to onset of symptoms of melting? Did you have it under similar conditions or did you have it completely shaded and low flow?

Maybe you have to keep this type of yuma shaded longer before you bring it out to the light for MH tanks. I thought I remember hugo's sps tank having my type of yuma at the bottom, not shaded of his MH tank.

Thanks for the info!

with my experience also, when a yuma begins to "melt" away, its very tough to bring back to good health....good luck though !!
