Planning for my next upgrade already..Go Big or Go Home

So.. as some of you know I ws possibly going to be moving down to Pismo and luckily that didn't work out.And since I've already decided my 180g is pretty small I've decided to GO BIG OR GO HOME.So for one Im stoked I don't have to move my 180g.. But since we're going to be staying in Sac now for a few years probably we're going to buy a house..

So I have to go ahead--Money permitting of course--So now Im actually looking for a job=)

The go ahead is to build whatever size fish tank I want complete with a entire room behind the tank for sump/fuge/water change area--and a nice big propogation tank=) NOW this isn't going to be happening anytime soon especially since I havea feeling the tank alone is probably going to cost me $3-4kalong with another $10k or so in misc, pumps, vortechs, electrical wiring, tile etc....
As of now Im planning on roughly a 450g In wall Display Tank(120"x36"x24'), Steel stand, probably a 150-200g sump, 100g fuge and who knows how big of a propogation system I'll build yet.. This is all in the planning stages I haven't looks at any houses yet nor have I have looked for a job since I finished school a few months ago..

I'm planning on having drains in the floor of the fish room/tile floors, a window a/c unit to control the temps along with a chiller plumbed inline for redundancy in case the window a/c fails.. I'm hoping I can get away with 5-6 250w mh's on some big hanging luminarc reflectors.. So this is my thread for ideas and thoughts..Who has a fishroom how do you have it setup etc.. i'm just looking for ideas right now since I doubt I'll doing anything except collecting equipment for the next year or so=)

In the meantime though I did get the go ahead to do whatever I want in my garage and my girl isn't going to park in there anymore.. So when I get extra cash for a chiller I'm going to setup a prop system in my garage here.. Mainly because the electricity on the garage is free=)(one of the nice things about apts...Also all my ro/di i make is free too since i hook up to the apts garden hose outlet=))

Oh yeah m planning on going glass this time around Im kinda sick of being so careful when I clean my acrylic Im always afraid Im going to scratch it=) SO the front pane would be the only visible to most people unless your in the fish room so the front pane will definately be starfire...
Any ideas and comments would be great

I have been tossing around the idea also of going with no actual powerheads in the tank and having a few TUNZE Waveboxes in there=)

obviously, no one's ever told you size doesnt' matter :)

good luck with the build!

This build is gonna be great to watch! I live in Natomas and have a fish room. Nothing fancy, but you are welcome to come by some time and check it out. I may be moving in the next year and would love to get ideas on building a tank in wall. I think that is what I will most likely end up doing.

whooo... that's an expensive idea there if there ever was but sound very fun ! btw if you meant pismo beach in slo, ur missing out on the lovely place, I love the area !

i did an inwall tank. One of the reasons i tore it down was it was so hard to clean the front glass, cause i had no access from the front. I'd have to scrape some walk to the other side see where the algae was then walk back and scrape some more. So access to the tank from the front is a must. Enjoy, and take lotsa pics.

I'm really hoping that the magnetic scraper option is as effective on starphire as it's supposed to be. I agree that access from the front is critical, though, even if it's just to fish out accidental frags.

I'm still saying you should not get set on the in-wall idea and remain open to the idea of a peninsula.

Dan thats the way too go... 450g or bigger.. I'll watching your thread...And peninsula is great if your place permits it..

yeah Peninsula could possibly work depending on the deisgn of the house plus with a pensinsula bad part would be it would cost most then I'd need three sides of starfire. if I pensinsula I would want to go rimless I really like the look of those.. With a pensinsula is would give me alot better access tot he tank also but on the same token it would make cleaning alot more of a chore because of the three sides..But it would be really seet too.. Who knows I've always like the look of inwalls because well I just like how they look=)If i go inwall I'll definately be having removable panels for front access..

I have no clue.. I'll need to get together with a builder on it when I get a house and have things more finalized..

So how do you buy a house and build a 12K tank without a job? I need to do whatever you are doing! Sounds good :D

I want to tackle the steel stand design and build with you when the time comes. We can park my truck on top of it as a test. (that last part was a joke)
