Hi

I bought a long tenticle plate coral yesterday, however when i was in the shop i heard something hitting the ground i asked if it was the coral but the guy said it was his watch.

The coral is in my tank now but has not extended its tenticles like it was in the shop its been in there for a day now, is this usuall behaviour when it goes into a new tank, or is it possibly damaged. I have a Candy cane coral which is thriving and splitting so the water prams are fine, heres a picture.

i'd give it a couple days to settle in. Make sure its in strong light and low current and check it at night. Some stay closed during the day.

Do a search for long tentacle plates and you will find that this behavior followed by death is a very common experience.

Considering that you can frag these by cutting them into several pieces, I doubt a drop on the floor would kill it. I'd give it a few days to acclimate.

This is a long tentacle not a short. They are much more touchy and can be killed through considerably less minor damage than a drop on the floor.

You can see damage to the bottom right the skeleton is showing through. As already said the long tenticle type are very prone to damage then death.
