I have a fucia plate coral in my 55g reef tank.It has been doing very well for about 4-5+ months. Then for the last few days it has had all of its tenticles retracted and its showing white patches and exposed sheleton.
The inhabitants are a yellow tang,a foxface,4 striped damsel, clarkki clownfish, and a mandrinfish. All doing well for about a year.Nothing has been wrong with the water paremeters I think. What is the matter with itt,and how do I fix it?Oh and corals, frogspawn, torch, xenia, ricordias, and a toadstool mushroom. The only coral close to it is the xenia.

And one more question,my yellow tang has been getting bites all over its tail the last few days. What could be doing this?

Might the tang be nipping the plate?? Long or short tentacle plate?? Could the clown be wallowing in it if it's a long tentacle and irritating it?? What lights do you have? Plates need pretty intense light.

For the tang are the bites on the fin itself or on the peduncle? Could be the foxface, clown, or something else (crabs?) nipping at it to assert dominance (although foxface are pretty docile I thought) If its a case of the fin being torn, it will heal soon enough. Keep an eye out to see what is causing it though.

I agree with Jay, i had a large long tenticle plate and when my clown wasn't playing in it the three yellow tangs were nipping at it. What finally did it in, were the tangs. Keep watch of them.

Theres alot more skeloton exposed.Somehow im going to isolate it.It is a short tentacle plate.Im going with the yellow tang nipping at it becuase the clown is to obsessed with the xenia and frogspawn.

I went to this new lfs and the guy said that plate corals are prone to a certaint desease.I forgot what its called.Bu I have to look for red jelly stuff I think, then suck it up withat turkey baster.

He offered my a job,he said that its hard to find an adult arond here that nows as much about reefs as me.
