So, Just a few days ago I noticed my blue tenuis had 2 small white tips. Then the next day I saw that another acro had about 10 white tips. I know its not growth because I can see the flesh peeling off. I checked my alk and it was 7 down from 9. I have since brought it back up to 9 and it seems to be holding stable now. But now I noticed my ora chips colony has a few white tips as well. I do bi weekly 5 gallon water changes w/ tropic marine pro. The only thing I can think of is that I mixed up a new batch of alk before it dropped. Should I cut off the white tips? What else should I be concerend about?

Phos. .06
Alk 9
cal 420
mag 1380
amonina 0
nitrate 0
nitrite 0

Oh so I tested the alk this morning it had dropped to 7 again. I looked at my controller and noticed the channel dosing alk was on but nothing was coming out. I tapped the drews doser and it came back on. :( I think I just found my issue. What the he** should I do?

if it only dropped to 7, I would not stop looking for a cause to your tissue loss at the tips, as IMO that wont do it. Go ahead and deal with the alk of course and get it stable again, but you havent found the true cause of your problems yet

thats is an idea, but all I had to do is tap it and it turned back on.

Well, I guess you could tap on it every day to make sure it's working, or if you are comfortable doing so, take it apart and look for broken/lose wires or soldier joints.

What in the world else could it be? I am on top of my tank and everything tests out good. I am starting to get upset. I do water changes twice a week! I has got to be the doser right? It really sounds like an alk issue to me. Any other ideas?

I have had the same issue for a while and could not find the cause. I have changed out the rocks. I have also changed the salt to IO which does not contain a lot of trace elements.
That seemed to have fixed it. I just picked up a couple of maricultured sps and are doing fine so far...

Gfo combined with vodka dosing has been said to cause these things. No real proof. Have you changed you r lights? Look closely for something eating the coral at night time.
