I have been trying without success for nearly a month now to get a small crocea clam to base. every time I look at the tank it has jumps around and is turned over against one of my corals. I have tried clam shells, base rock, different places, 0 flow- high flow, different hights, and no matter what I do it keeps running around and falling over into somehting else. I did get it to base a few weeks ago and in 2 days it had moved a few inches and off the side of a rock.

How can I base this clam?
Thanks.

when its happy it will attach on its own. find a spot with low to moderate flow, high to very high light and give it some time. you can also place a few small rocks on either side to help hold it in place.

Croceas are boring clams. They are found in nature at the top of the reef structure, bored into the head of coral, often Porities.

They need a hard substrate and lots of light.

What lights are you running? How long has the tank being set up?

150 w halide on a 24 aquapod. I transfered almost everything including water from my 4 year old 75 gallon reef. Water is great, 5 gallon water changes every week.

I've tried the rocks around the clam thing, still didn't work, I now have him in a clam shell at the bottom of the tank until he attaches then to move him back to the middle.

the 150 watt halide is 20 inches from the sand bed. So about 10 inches from the midpoint in the tank where the clam will be. I have sps and softies and the clam and polys, ect with excellent growth and vibrant colors.
