I was just watching my fish eat and out of noware came this odd looking thing and before I knew it it was gone. I kept watching and I saw it again. I think it is a Mantis shrimp. It was blue with green but eyes. I am trying to download a pic but it says its too big. Can someone PM with there email so i can send them the pics and they can tell me what the heck this it!

I have a good pic but it wont let me download it. In the last one its hard to see but you can see its green bug eyes. I have not seen this thing since th. I am hoping i can find his rock and its easy to get out.

LUCKY! I want this thing gone. I am going to do everything to get it out. If that was my pic dreamscape thanks for fixing it. I don't really know how to do it yet. Why do so many want this and I don't? Am I missing something?

lol It depends on your point of view. You have it in a tank where it can do damage and so want it gone. People like us set up tanks where they can't hurt anything (except what is supposed to be food) and we can watch them and enjoy seeing how intelligent and cool they are!

Anyways, looking at the speckly raptorial appendages, you have the same species I have! I have a little guy, about 1 1/2" long, who hasn't come more than halfway out of his hole, so all we can see of him is his eyeballs and smashers.

yeah, that was ur pic.
just happen to have PhotoEditor at my uni :D

i wish i was in the US now, then u could send the mantis to me :)

if u know which live rock it's in, u can just take it out of the tank.
otherwise a softdrink bottle with an inverted top and some bait should work.

if u want to keep the mantis safely, u can put it in a critterkeeper in ur tank :)

if u don't want it, i'm sure lots of people in this forum would gladly take it off ur hands :D (i love smilies :D )

jsronce, are u sure it's the same? lots of mantis have speckled raptors : )

Yeah, the numerous dark speckles on greyish-green raptorial appendages are identical. We haven't seen his body yet, but the pet store claimed he was black. These are (sadly) some of the best pics I've got of my guy:

I'll try to take a better one today. He just opened his tunnel again after presumably molting, so maybe he'll come out for a little food.

If you end up getting rid of him , depending on where you're at in Wis. I could actually probably swing by and take him off your hands.Just PM or e-mail me if you decide to oust the little bugger.

Well,
Still no mantis. I know he is in some rock laughing at me. He has only shown his ugly head a couple of times this week. He is causing terror in the tank. I set up traps but the crabs and peppermint shrimp keep getting themselves caught first. The other day I saw a hermit crab completely destroyed in one of the corners. Someone had ripped the legs and claws from the poor guy. Now, its a war and I will catch this guy If I have to remove and inspect all 150lbs of liverock! When I catch him I have noware to put him. I would rather not ship him anyware but he would be free to be picked up. I will post then. I live 5 minutes from Madison WI.

Well gimme a holler if you catch him.You are like 4 hours away from me I think, but I spend some time in Racine which would put me closer.

be careful catching him because he can pack a strong punch. i narrowly escaped havnig a broken fingernail from mine. i foolishly moved a rock around with my hands and he punched me. luckily it was a small guy. adults have punches equal to a .22 caliber bullet, so i heard.
