Plumbing my sump area

I have a 75 gallon reef tank with a small sump underneath it. I want to upgrade the pump in it right now but was told that I would need to upgrade the hangon overflow as well to compinsate. Is this true? Any other options. Thanks.

Yes, you can only pump as fast as the tank will drain, otherwise it will overflow.

what is your reasoning for wanting a bigger pump? If your looking for more flow, a simple idea is just use more powerheads in the tank.
