Polishing Acrylic (How To...)

Well, my in-laws came for my son's birthday and 'nicely' helped clean the tank with the magnavore in preparation.... must have dragged it through the sand while using it to predictable results. UGGH.

I dont have the stones to try and polish it out myself, so worried Ill make it worse. Ive read several posts it can be done. Does it come out as clear as the rest of the tank? Or am I better off with the scatch lines? Does anyone have actual pictures I can see of the process in stages and what they did exactly? I inadvertantly posted this in the wrong forum..hopefully the DIY one is the correct thread...

Is the tank filled? I assume the scratches are on the inside.

Unfortunately the tank is filled. its 32" high and the scraches are closer to the bottom third of the front. darn shame.

Yeah I think you'd have to empty the tank in order to polish, you learned the hide the magfloat lesson the hard way.

I know there are guys who have done this with the tank still filled -- anyone out there care to share please?

I use THIS KIt to buff out scratches in my 300 with water in it, it works well with some elbow grease.

 

[Acrylics]

There are a few kits one can safely use in a fully stocked tank. IMO the two best are the Everclear kit www.etr-inc.com and Micro-Mesh www.micro-surface.com
If looking at the Micro-Mesh kit, I'd advise the NC-78-1 kit, should last you a lifetime.
