What do you mean by feeding your clams? I add phytoplankton to my tank for my clam but I don't sit it in a bowl of the stuff. Does that count as feeding?

I mean feeding anything that is food meant for the clams. Just wondering how many people feed there clams specifically, as opposed to, as some poeple have told me, they feed thier fish and the fish food will also feed thier clams. Just curious

My clams get fed until the DT's run out. Damn that stuff is expensive. $40-60 per month for DT's. I think I will just buy one big bottle per month. Clams and other filter feeders will have to deal with the cut back.

Thought about setting a phyto culture station. Sounds like too much work. Rotating bottles, checking dates, more maintenance.

Jared,

Tell your friends regular fish food (e.g. flake, formula 1) will not feed their clams. Someone is sadly mistaken.
Clams are specialized feeders (ammonia, nitrates and phytoplankton).

I have a deresa, squamosa and 2 maxima clams that I don't supplement feed. I use tap make-up water that contains 17-22 ppm nitrates.

Regards,
Kevin

I feed my tank. Fish, coral, clams, etc.... I feed heavily so that everybody gets plenty. I didn't vote as I'm not sure how I fit in your criteria.

Maybe I need to be clearer:
If you feed your tank phytoplankton (DT's), rotifers (Golden pearls or the like), or any type of homemade recipe that you make for you clams or even that Kent microvert stuff then vote yes.
For everything else vote no.

I feed my clams when I feed the entire tank. Besides getting nitrates as a result of feeding my fish & other animals, I feed well-blended spray-dried phytoplankton to the tank 2x/week for all the filter feeders. Clams don't like it if I dump in too much though. Also my tank is nearly skimmerless so there is a lot of living stuff, and marine snow-like-stuff in the water. My skimmer turns most of the surface scum into marine snow rather than foam in the collection cup.
