Polyp extension questions?

My frogspawn only extends its polyps during the day. This wouldnt be a problem but I dont think it really ever gets to full extension. My parameters are good, 405ppm Ca, 10.9 Alk, phosphate<.1, undetectable nitrate. I dont know about silicates but I dont get alot of red algea growth. pH is 8.1-8.2

I just got a white torch and its doing the same thing but it has only been in my tank for two nights.

I have 2 emeraldcrabs in the tank who are very noctornal, I never see them during the day but when ever the lights gets turned on a see them run to hide from the light.

I also have a flame angel but I never see it out during the night.

Anyways is this normal?

I only have experience with 1 frogspawn, but that's exactly what it does as well. Retracting at night shouldn't keep it from fully extending during the day, that is likely a separate issue. I don't even know what a frogspawn looks like fully extended... the one I've known has always had an onyx percula living in it.

Medium to low flow and they will expand alot... This is a picture of mine after I moved it to a lower flow part of the tank. It now expands about twice the size it used too..

You may be able to get it to expand more fully after feeding cyclop-eeze and oyster eggs. My frogspawn closes at night, and expands during the day . . . but it usually doesn't expand "fully".
