Yesterday I brought home a beautiful colony of green star polyps, I placed them in my 100 gal fowlr tank at about 2pm and as of 6pm today they still haven't opened. Could it be that I killed them,or are they staying shut for so other reason. Any feedback would be welcome because this has me very worried. As far as my water parameters go they are as follows....amonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 ph 8.2 temp 80f calcium 450ppm. Please help....

You haven't killed them :) They are just acclimating. . I can say from experience, it is almost impossible to kill green star polyps. When I move or frag my colony, they will stay closed for a day or two. Just don't put them on your rockwork, once they start to spread they will grow fast and can take over in a hurry. Heck mine spreads on my sandbed, which makes fragging quick and easy.

thanks for putting my mind at ease I hope your right, as far as spreading goes thats what im hoping for. I got really nervous about this because all of my other polyps extended within a couple of hours. thanks again...cheers

same here, about 3 days to open.

I do have a question about them spreading, I have them in my "nano" 10aga, on the rock work on the rock they came in on, will this be a problem,?

there is also another set of polyps on the frag, the kind of look like xenias, but single branched and connected like zoas, any idea what they are?

I have heard that the green stars will actually spread to the glass if the colony is resting on it.

They will definately grow on the glass, I got a small frag and purposely set them against the glass on one side of the tank hoping to cover that side. I have already seen them spread to it and have polyps extending from the glass, my intention is to have that side of the tank flow with the GSP and frag off any other growth.

Be careful what you wish for. They WILL take over EVERYTHING in your tank.

As long as they don't spread by floating away, like a mushroom, I should be ok because of how I've got the tank arranged.

Back to the original thread though give it some time and they will come out. Mine looked like a bristly rock for about 2 weeks then took off.
