Poor Experience with shipping Live Rock.

I had two orders of Live Rock.

Order #1 had 5+ lbs of rubble and bunch of pieces baseball to softball sized and a few medium sized pieces.
Needless to say I was pretty disappointed, called and was sent out a box of 22 lbs for free (Thank You).

The 22 lbs came in as two nice large pieces no rubble but must have gotten quite hot,
it stank very bad and after 2 and a half weeks it still has no life on it except for some algae.
Order #1 had feather worms etc on it after only about a week.

After this I figure I'll just buy the live stuff local.
Though more expensive I don’t have to worry about it getting ruined in shipping.

We would like to add that generally speaking live rock may take 3-4 weeks to cure. It will have an unpleasant smell due to the die off process. This is a natural component of the curing process. Additionally the appearance of life forms such as plants, worms, sponges, starfish, crustaceans, and mollusks will appear after several months in the aquarium.

When I got live rock directly from the transhipper, it took 2 months before it started to show any nice life/color. Give it some time, hopefully it'll shape up for you.

Hey Harry Fish,
I ordered between 60-70lbs of rock from liveaquaria.com and had great results. When the rock arrives it stinks! However, after it has cured in the tank for several months it really looks good. My rock has feather-dusters, some plants, and sponges. Just be patient. It will make a come back!!!

I brought 45 pounds from them and it does smell really bad when i receive it. I cure the live rocks but so far nothing has grow yet.

All I see is a few bristleworms but is only been a month.

It was/is the Select Lalo Live Rock.

I think alot of the problem is with the shipper (they sure could be a lot more careful).

I've had some packages come in pretty beat up (at work and at home).

My Deltec skimmer came in and it the box was all beat up, lucky for me it was packed well enough so that the skimmer was not broken.


The nice thing is that LiveAquaria takes care of the customer.
Though I think they need to have a word with the shipping company as they are costing LA money in the end.

In addition I think it depends on where you live. I have never had any shipping issues. Both the UPS and Fed Ex drivers that deliver to me are great. Heck, when I ordered that rock it was a little bit cool out, when the driver came to my door I noticed that he was sweating. I asked him why -- he said that he saw that the box was marked "live fish" so he made sure the heat was on high enough that the back of the truck was warm enough.
