Popular Roller Mat Filters

I've never used one but here is a recent discussion

Thanks for the response, I had read that already and it was interesting. I am considering using a roller mat in my sump and was hoping some of the users on reef central would be glad to share their experiences with their systems but as you can see they haven't perhaps as the weekend gets started folks will have more time and be willing to answer up :)

Damn I love my new Red Sea filter roller 500. It’s simple and app controlled but a bit big.

Thank you JohnL, glad to hear a product testimony. My problem with doing a product search as proposed is I'm just not familiar with the brand names that are in manufacture so names of different ones to research would be a great help here, I'm just about convinced that a roller mat filter may be of better use for me than a skimmer which I have a Life Reef H3 there seems to still be a lots of dust in my tank.

Nice post I also have been looking into the roller mat, I do not like cleaning sock filters. my option I like the red sea it seems the simplest one to use. as well breaks down for easy cleaning, looks easy to change the roller, and the basket on the bottom is a bonus, oh yea i also like the water sensor.

I would also like to hear what others think.

Thanks

I've been looking at the red sea roller 500 and it looks very nice if a tad bit busy, seems a lots of small parts. I believe the company has a good track record. Are there any other users of same or different brands that would care to comment on your setup?

Well I fired that off before I saw the above post with the video, thanks very informative. I'll continue to investigate but red sea is looking great. BTW I'm running a Herbie drain system so will have to see if that would make any difference.

Hello! Is anyone up for testing a non-plastic bases (all of the poly fleece is simply shedding into your systems and rayon or silk are environmental dumpster fires), compostable roller filter?

Red sea reefmat hands down. Ive been running mine for over a year with no issues. No more filter socks!! I had been looking at roller mats for a while prior to getting this one and they all looked cheap...even the expensive ones. You can tell the reefmat was designed from the ground up. As an engineer I was really impressed with all the design considerations and symmetry making it easy to work with and use.

I run a herbie drain too and do notice a difference when the filter chamber fills up creating a litte bit of back pressure but nothing that keeps me up at night.

I use a Reef Factory medium sized unit. No complaints & my sump stays cleaner longer.
I did modify it to keep the overflow hole closed by raising the float assembly.

IF anyone is interested in testing a roll of compostable roller mat that will fit the 1200 Reefmat, please let me know and I'll share a link to a survey about your system and other information. I do agree that the RedSea roller filters are great, especially with the titanium sensors.
